The rebel SPLA (Sudan People's Liberation Army) said it had captured the government garrison town of Guffa. The attacks were conducted by the SPLA's 31st and 34th Mechanized Regiments. Guffa lies along a route to the Khor Adar oilfields. The SPLA statement referred to the Khartoum government force in Guffa as the "Azima al Rujal (determination of men)" unit. The SPLA claimed it captured three tanks, 14 trucks and six jeeps when Guffa fell.
