The US is trying to support Sri Lanka's war against the LTTE rebels with three current exercises. US Navy commandos (from SEAL Team 1) are working with Sri Lankan naval commandos and small boat units (off the south coast) to train them in new ways to detect and engage the small boats used by the rebels. US Air Force commandos from the 6th Special Operations Squadron are teaching the Sri Lankans advanced search and rescue techniques. US Army troops from the Psychological Operations Group are teaching advanced psychological techniques to the Sri Lankan Army's new Directorate of Psychological Operations. --Stephen V Cole
