: A Moldovan newspaper backed by the government has revealed the strength of the Moldovan military and the forces of the breakaway Dnestr region:

@ Moldova: 8,500 troops, three infantry "brigades", one "special service" battalion, one artillery "regiment". Equipment includes 209 armored vehicles (no tanks), 79 howitzers, 115 mortars, and 11 Uragan multiple rocket launchers.

@ Dnestr Republic: Four infantry brigades, four various combat battalions (one of them with 16 tanks), 43 armored vehicles, 18 howitzers, 75 mortars, and 24 Grad multiple rocket launchers. Stephen V Cole
