On May 15 Burundi government sources reported that the Burundian Army had attacked several FNL positions in a new offensive east of Bujumbura. On May 16 western press sources reported that the FNL struck back, hitting five government positions outside of Bujumbura. A government spokesman acknowledged two Burundian Army soldiers died in the fighting. An FNL source later said that the rumors of a mutiny in the FNL were false
