January 16, 2006: Leftist political parties are under investigation for providing cash assistance to NPA rebels. The NPA have a growing cash flow crises since they were declared a terrorist organization in Europe, cutting off donations from there, and other Western nations. Communism is still popular with a minority of Filipinos, although the violence and terrorism of the NPA is turning off many leftists.

January 15, 2006: The MILF believes their negotiations with the government will succeed, and a treaty signed by Summer.

January 1 4, 2006: In Samar, NPA rebels disguised as prison guards, raided a prison and freed fifteen NPA and leftist prisoners. Elsewhere, NPA gunmen killed four soldiers.

January 12, 2006: On Basilan, a clash with Abu Sayyaf left two rebels dead and two soldiers wounded.

January 8, 2006: Continued operations against Abu Sayyaf has forced the rebels into hiding. The pressure is constant, and the rebels cannot sustain the losses, or inability to get assistance from local civilians.
