Two army colonels were arrested for planting a bomb at the stock exchange, as part of a failed plot to cause widespread panic, and install a military junta to rule the country. The colonels were supporters of movie actor politicians Poe and Estrada. Poe recently died of a stroke, after losing the last presidential election, to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, by three percentage points. Estrada was deposed as president because of corruption, and replaced by his vice president, current president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Both men, however, were enormously popular for their movie roles.
