In the United States, an Iranian was convicted of trading with Iran. Abbas Tavakolian,  tried to buy parts for F-4 and F-14 warplanes, and have them shipped to Iran. Those two aircraft types, purchased by Iran in the 1970s, still form the backbone of the Iranian air force.

In the capital, women students at Tehran university resisted attempts by the security police to arrest them for violating dress regulations. Students are increasingly meeting violence when the police try to enforce "vice laws" that involve how covered up women should be, and the prohibitions on male and female students socializing.
