In Bihar, southern India, Maoist rebels killed three gunmen working for local landlords. This was done in revenge for the gunmen killing six farmers suspected of supporting the rebels. Communist rebels in southern India are locked in a war with landlord militias. Most of the Maoist communist rebel support is from lower caste tenant farmers. The land lords often deal harshly with the tenant farmers, and the landlord gunmen will sometimes kill entire families of farmers thought to be supporting the rebels. The local police side with the landlords.
