In northeast India, 2623 members of the Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) movement surrendered, along with over 500 weapons. The BLT was one of three major (and several more minor) tribal rebel organizations. The tribes of the northeast have, for decades,  fought the influx of non-tribal migrants from other parts of India. The government has been fighting the rebels, but also trying to work out agreements with them as well. Terms were reached with the BLT, which will now disband, with many of its members joining a political organizations. The government has a big incentive to make demilitarizing the BLT work, as it will encourage other rebel groups to negotiate settlements.
