HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.) signed a deal with French aircraft engine manufacturers to import advanced engine manufacturing technology. This will enable India to make more complex aircraft engines, and import military grade engines that used to come from the US (but were halted after India's nuclear tests in 1998.) India is upgrading it's military technology manufacturing with technology exchange deals with Russia and France. For decades, many of India best engineering and scientific students studied in the US and Europe, stayed to work and start businesses. Now, many of these seasoned technology experts are coming back to India, where they are starting high tech firms. Some of this technology is for military gear, and India is trying to match China's impressive work in this area.
