Pro-Taliban demonstrations in the Pakistani town of Quetta have so far left six dead and dozens wounded. There has been much property damage. The police have arrested over 300 pro-Taliban activists to clamp down on the violence.  The unrest has halted UN relief operations in Afghanistan as some of the buildings attacked belonged to UN relief organizations. The demonstrations have not been as large or as violent as expected and, more importantly, have not spread to other Pakistani cities. In the northwest of Pakistan, the population is largely Pushtun (as are the Afghan Taliban) and tend to be pro Taliban.

On the border, Pakistani troops fought with 30 Taliban troops who tried to enter Pakistan and opened fire when the Pakistanis tried to stop them. Taliban troops often cross into Pakistan, but the border is more closely guarded now and Pakistani troops are encountering more of these Taliban units. In the past, Taliban troops often came to visit family members in  refugee camps, now they are coming to escape American bombs or Northern Alliance attacks.
