Serbia and China both have "separatist provinces." China has Tibet and problems in Sinkiang. Serbia has Kosovo as well as Hungarian separatists. A Chinese newspaper has reported that Serbian leaders issued a statement opposing "political fragmentation in the Far East." Serbia also supports the "one China policy" (ie, Taiwan is not China). These positions please China. China has a veto on the UN Security Council. The UN says it intends to resolve Kosovo's final status sometime within the next year. Serbia is obviously playing UN politics with China. And China may be listening.
