On August 11 UNITA guerrillas attacked a train carrying 500 hundred of refugees from the city of Dondo to Luanda. The attack occurred approximately 150 kilometers southeast of Luanda. Initial reports said 90 were killed and around 150 wounded. On August 13 UNITA claimed credit for the attack, saying that 25 Angolan soldiers were killed in the attack. On August 16 international sources said the death toll was 259.
