The fighting in Herat has ended with the forces of governor Ismail Khan victorious. The rebellious warlord has escaped, but most of his fighters were killed or captured. 

During the past week, along the Pakistan border, American and Afghan forces have captured at least a dozen al Qaeda and Taliban fighters trying to flee the Pakistani army operations against them in Pakistan.
