Stephen Woida, a notorious commercial hacker (who made cards allowing users to steal satellite TV service) admitted, after his recent arrest, that he had received emails, right after September 11, 2001, from unnamed individuals in Afghanistan to see if he was interested in doing some contract programming. The hacker did not respond to the emails. Al Qaeda members are known to engage in credit card and similar types of fraud (like stealing satellite TV services) to finance their activities. No al Qaeda members are known to be involved in the technical aspects of this, but some of them apparently knew the names of the hackers who did this work and were able to contact elusive individuals like Woida.
