Japan's National Institute for Defense Studies has rejected Chinese criticism of Tokyo's plans for a missile defense system, saying that China fears only that such a system would "undermine its one-sided military advantage". The annual report by the NIDS noted that China's nuclear and missile inventory have steadily increased, although not at a fast pace. --Stephen V Cole
