The British Royal Artillery has issued a request for proposals for a new artillery locating radar system it will designate MAMBA (Mobile Artillery Monitoring Battlefield Radar). The system must be able to locate enemy artillery (including mortars, rockets, and howitzers) which fire within 15km of friendly troops and digitally communicate their location (within 70m) to other Royal Artillery units. The system must fit into a C130 and must be able to be carried in a sling by a tactical helicopter. Nine sets are to be bought for units in the Joint Rapid Response Force.--Stephen V Cole
