In mid-October, the Ukrainian 72nd Mechanized Division (stationed in the Kiev region town of Belaya Tserkov) received 10 new T-84 Main Battle Tanks made by the Kharkov-based Malyshev tank production plant. These are the same tanks as supplied to Pakistan.

Until recently, the plant had refused to supply the tanks without payment from the ministry, even though they had come off the production line in February. The Defense Ministry wanted them badly, but had only paid 26 percent of the purchase price by mid-August. Each tank cost $US 1.47 million, and the Defense Ministry's remaining debt was estimated to be around $US 3.18 million.  - Adam Geibel
