The long-delayed MiG-1.42 has finally made its first test flight. (The demonstrator aircraft is designated as Project-1.44.) The aircraft took off on 29 Feb from Gromov Flight Test Institute 30 miles southeast of Moscow. It climbed to 1,000m, flew two circles at 600kph (375mph), and then landed after 18 minutes. The plane handled well. --Stephen V Cole
